Health Insurance Bill passes the house

This bill HR 4626 named Health Insurance Industry Fair Competition Act passed the House Feb 24th, the day before the big health care summit. This bill would repeal a law that exempts health insurance companies from anti-trust laws. Now, I have not look into this bill in great detail, but the fact that it passed with a little opposition could be a good sign.

What has me scratching my head is while the MSM, President Obama, Pelosi and Reid are distracting us with "Health Care Reform" it looks like this might be a bill that would offer up more competition, which would in turn make health insurance more affordable. Yet, it passes with no media coverage other than a few local websites and blogs.

Rep Perriello, (VA-5), who sponsored the bill had this to say:

“If you’re a health insurance company and you’re not engaged in monopolistic practices, you’re not colluding, then you have nothing to worry about,” Perriello said in a speech on the House floor Wednesday. “But if you are, be afraid. Be very afraid. Because you are no longer going to enjoy the monopoly protections you have enjoyed for 65 years.”

This sounds like Health Insurance Reform to me and best part, does not look like it would cost taxpayers a dime.
